Are Spurs finally going to have success when signing a Brazilian?
When Spurs go shopping for Brazilians more often than not they get it wrong.
It started with defender Rodrigo Defendi, who played a grand total of zero first-team games for Spurs before being shipped on.
Next came Gilberto, a man deemed good enough to play 35 times for his country but only seven times at White Hart Lane.
Latterly there’s been Heurelho Gomes, Sandro and Paulinho, who performed with varying success but won’t live too long in the memory of Spurs fans.
But will Spurs’ Brazilian luck be about to change? Bayern Munich winger Douglas Costa is on Mauricio Pochettino’s summer transfer list, according to the Daily Mail.
The report claims Bayern are preparing to receive offers of around £25-35million for the Brazilian.
The 26-year-old is one of Europe’s most dangerous wingers in one-on-one situations but has found opportunities slightly limited under Carlo Ancelotti this season.
Costa has started 13 of Bayern’s 29 Bundesliga games this season amidst fierce competition from Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery and Kingsley Coman.
He’s started a further four games in Bayern’s Champions League campaign, which was ended against Real Madrid last week.
Costa spoke out about his lack of game time earlier in the season but was reprimanded by Bayern club president Uli Hoeness for trying to get a higher salary.
In a strange twist of fate Bayern are reportedly chasing former Spurs midfielder Paulinho, whose form with the Brazilian national side has been nothing short of exceptional.
