Chinese Super League club confirm they’re in for Chelsea’s Diego Costa

Rumour has it that Diego Costa hasn’t been seen all week as he continues to try and find his way out of Marcos Rojo’s pocket.

But that hasn’t stopped Chinese Super League club Tianjin Quanjian, who are managed by Fabio Cannavaro, offering the Chelsea striker a reported £620,000-a-week deal to join in the summer.

Tianjin’s billionaire owner Shu Yuhui spoke to Sina Sports, confirming: “I can only say that we are still working on the deal to sign Costa.

“We have high standards and those players prefer top clubs such as Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. It’s safe to say we have the same transfer targets as those illustrious clubs.

“We may have to pay bigger prices because our club is now competing with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.”

It’s no secret that Costa tried to force through a move to former club Atletico Madrid last summer as a result of what the 28-year-old perceived as unfair treatment from referees.

Although a return to Spain never transpired there was heavy speculation linking Costa with a move to the Chinese Super League in January, which appears to have impacted on his form.

Costa has scored three Premier League goals since the start of January, compared to  14 in the months leading up to January.

He’s gone five games without a goal since netting against West Ham in March, his longest Premier League goal drought all season.

Chelsea have been linked with Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata and Everton striker Romelu Lukaku in the summer as Antonio Conte looks to bolster his squad ahead of a Champions League campaign.

Whether that’s with or without Costa remains to be seen, but one thing is for certain.

Premier League defenders will sleep much more comfortably knowing Costa is more than 5,000 miles away.
