An ode to Roberto Larcos – a true Pro Evolution Soccer legend
He had a thunderous left boot, bags of raw pace and could score impossible free kicks with his eyes closed.
Roberto Larcos – who, as you’ve already guessed is based on the Brazilian legend, Roberto Carlos.
Very clever, Konami… you almost had us.
Anyway, back in PES 2, the Brazilian was called Larcos because Konami didn’t own the license for the Brazil team.
Not that it stopped Larcos becoming a PES legend.
He is widely regarded as one of the top left-backs ever in the history of the game.
Free kicks were his speciality due to the huge amount of swerve and power he could apply from long range.
The bend was so great that many fans would refer to them as ‘Banana Kicks’.
Then there was his pace and crossing ability – which made him the ultimate over-lapping full back.
He’d blast down the wings and fire off shots from outside the box – with near enough every single one of them finding the back of the net.
Throughout the years, his powers began to wane – with Master League players reporting his shot power would decrease year on year.
But in PES 2013, he returned for ‘Classic Brazil’ with an unstoppable combination of 95 swerve and 98 kicking power.
Only this time he was called Rodrico Catis.
So, what’s Larcos doing now?
Well, he’s currently the player/manager of Indian Super League club Delhi Dynamos. And we bet he’s still hammering in those free kicks.
Larcos, Carlos or whatever you’re called, you’ll always be a PES legend.
